WGIB ("Where God Is Blessing") is a listener-supported radio station that was started in 1982 by the late Pastor Jack LeGrand who desired to present the glorious gospel of Christ through Biblical preaching and to encourage believers through songs, hymns, and spiritual songs.

What an opportunity God has given us in allowing us to continue this broad-reaching ministry. Throughout these past forty years, God has given us glimpses of how His Word has transformed lives through this radio station.

Annually, we have a two-day "Share-a-thon" that gives long-time listeners and new listeners an opportunity to give to the Lord's work done here at WGIB. This is always a fun and exciting time as we hear from old friends and form new relationships with others. During these two days, we invite listeners to make a weekly, monthly, or yearly pledge to WGIB.

How WGIB Began

In the early 1980s, Glen Iris Baptist Church’s pastor, Jack LeGrand, yearned to broadcast the gospel on the radio. His friend and mentor, Lester Roloff, had pledged to underwrite the station entirely when the time came. All that remained was securing a coveted spot on the airwaves. Pastor LeGrand applied year after year.

Finally, a window opened and the FCC awarded the spot to WGIB. The church had sixty days to buy the equipment, produce the content, and get our people and processes in place. Sixty days to make a radio station happen.

Tragedy struck when Mr. Roloff died in a plane crash in 1982. His financial commitment was lost, and the anticipated funds went unfulfilled. Glen Iris church members fundraised to cover the filing fees, lawyers’ fees, and other startup costs. Yet, some of the larger equipment costs loomed large, and the clock was still ticking.

Pastor LeGrand considered one last idea: his mailing list. This was a group of individuals who had requested copies of sermons by mail over the years. He crafted a letter demonstrating the burden and opportunity and sent it out prayerfully.

In the days that followed, they eagerly awaited the mailman’s arrival. Small gifts of $10, $15, and $20 began to come in. Piece by piece, the radio station was coming together. Only God could have orchestrated it. By His divine providence, WGIB went on the air on New Year’s Eve 1982. It was a miracle.

To this day, we await the mailman’s arrival.  Although the station remains listener-supported, we continue to trust in God’s ability to meet all its needs. Whether you make a one-time or recurring gift to WGIB, you join the work that God initiated over four decades ago and continues to this day.
